The Wild Rivers State Trail The Wild Rivers State Trail stretches 104 miles through northwest Wisconsin. The area surrounding the Wild Rivers State Trail is rich in natural resources and wildlife habitat. The trail crosses numerous rivers and streams. The surface of the trail is highway-grade compacted gravel and railroad ballast.
Trail Activities The level grade and smooth surface make this trail suitable for bicyclists, walkers and joggers. The entire trail is open to walking and bicycling, though bicycling is not recommended. The trail may be rough or soft in many sections. All-terrain vehicles (ATVs) are allowed on the trail year-round. Operators must follow all Wisconsin ATV operation laws. The Wild Rivers State Trail also provides connections to many miles of county ATV trail systems. The entire trail is open to horseback riding. Snowmobiles are permitted on the trail. Operators must follow all Wisconsin snowmobile laws. The trail also connects to numerous miles of county snowmobile trails. Hunting and trapping are not allowed on the trail corridor.
The Wild Rivers State Trail passes by the communities of Solon Springs, Gordon, Minong, Trego, Spooner, Haugen, Rice Lake through Douglas, Barron, Washburn and counties.

Campgrounds in Wisconsin are as varied as the areas around them--there are forests, prairies, lakes, rivers, hills, and valleys. You'll find campgrounds, trails, historic and archaeological sites, places for solitude and places for large group gatherings. There are also Campgrounds in county parks, state parks and national forests.
A typical campsite is in a natural setting with road access, a fire ring, and a picnic table, and can be used by either vehicle or tent campers. But there also are backpack, walk-in, and canoeing -in sites, sites with electrical hookups, and sites designed specifically for either tent or vehicle campers.

National Forest - The Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest is located in Wisconsin's Northwoods, covering over a million and a half acres. The Chequamegon side of the forest covers about 858,400 acres in Ashland, Bayfield, Sawyer, Price, Taylor, and Vilas counties while the Nicolet side covers nearly 661,400 acres in Florence, Forest, Langlade, Oconto, Oneida, and Vilas counties.
