This trip we almost bit off more than we could chew. We started out in Mercer. We didn't know we
were in for a 235 mile ride with mile after mile of poorly groomed trails. The bumps were horrible.
To top it off we hit a snowstorm in the middle of the day that kept on into the night.
We found out later a groomer had broken down and the trails hadn't been worked on.
Sometime after nightfall we thought we may be getting near Houghton until we saw a sign that said
Houghton 76 miles. Oh no! Soon after that Tomba took a wrong turn and the Judge and
Tomba got separated from the group. It would have helped if we remembered where we were
staying so it took a couple of hours to meet up again. We were staying at the King's Inn.
That night we stopped at a local watering hole and met up with a drunk Russian named Ivan.
Tomba hit it off real good with Ivan and the vodka. He paid for that later that night.
The trails were groomed that night so with all the snow and newly groomed trails the conditions
were excellent. We came across a few bumps and Tomba became ill. The helmet had the stains to prove it.
Just like clockwork we lost Tomba on the way back to Hurley that day. We waited at the hotel
for over an hour and then headed downtown to look for him. We found him on Silver St. waiting for us.
He knew where to be found. We had a nice uneventful night.
The ride to Mercer the next day was very nice. No accidents!
This was a long trip but a great weekend!
