Canoeing the Platte River, Wisconsin

If you paddled the Grant River, you’ve had a good preview of the Platte. Paralleling the Grant a few miles to the east in the unglaciated southwestern corner of the state, the 46-mile long Platte follows a similarly crooked path, caroming off one bluff after another on its way to the Mississippi. It has few of the dramatic rock formations found along the Grant, but is otherwise comparable. Filled with riffles, its small, clear, peaceful and pleasant. Along the banks, wooded bluffs, bankside pastures, and cultivated fields are common, but houses are few.

Expert paddler Mike Svob has been canoeing and kayaking the rivers of the Midwest for 30 years. He paddled more than a thousand miles to complete these books. Below are brief descriptions of the canoe trips that Mike goes into detail with in his books with maps. The maps are very useful, showing rapids, take in and take out points and other things of interest.
