Canoeing the Manitowoc River, Wisconsin

The seldom paddled Manitowoc begins just east of Lake Winnebago, flowing through marshland in most of its upper reaches. A few miles east of the Collins Marssh, however, it changes character completely, passing through woodlands, riffles and rapids before entering the city of Manitowoc and emptying into Lake Michigan. Indeed, the Manitowoc upstream and downstream from County JJ near Collins is almost like a tale of two rivers. The former tends to be open, wide, marshy and suitable for beginners, while the latter is generally narrower, steeper, and more appropriate for experienced paddlers.

Expert paddler Mike Svob has been canoeing and kayaking the rivers of the Midwest for 30 years. He paddled more than a thousand miles to complete these books. Below are brief descriptions of the canoe trips that Mike goes into detail with in his books with maps. The maps are very useful, showing rapids, take in and take out points and other things of interest.
