An eminently historic river that
once comprised part of an important
and much traveled canoe route from
Lake Michigan to the Mississippi,
this river now travels through one
of the most intensely urbanized
areas in the Midwest. From Pleasant
Prairie in Wisconsin, paddlers can
head south for more than 30 river
miles before encountering the first
of a series of dams. Along the way
the river is small, winding, and
densely wooded.
