Canoeing the Crystal River, Wisconsin

If you like to paddle small streams, you will love the Crystal.Seldom more than 20-30 feet wide, its also a very short river. Originating as the outlet of the Waupaca Chain O' Lakes, it flows only 10 miles before joining the Waupaca River. Usually paddleable because of its source in the spring fed lake system, the little river always earns its name with sparkling, clear water. Plentiful riffles and mild rapids add to the excitement. Two special treats for paddlers are the charming little village of Rural near the beginning and the Old Red Mill and covered bridge farther downstream.

Expert paddler Mike Svob has been canoeing and kayaking the rivers of the Midwest for 30 years. He paddled more than a thousand miles to complete these books. Below are brief descriptions of the canoe trips that Mike goes into detail with in his books with maps. The maps are very useful, showing rapids, take in and take out points and other things of interest.
